Baby Bedding Blues?
Posted by Zeeman Haus on February 27th, 2010 filed in Sheets and BlanketsBaby bedding is probably one of the most important things that you will pick out for your little one. Think of it this way; cute blankets and matching pillows will definitely highlight any nursery and just add that little something to your decorative design.
Baby bedding is more than sheets and blankets; you have to take into account what kind of sheets and blankets you will need. This is important when you take into account that weather and other things play a major factor in how much you need to cover up baby and with what kind of material
You need to start thinking multiple sets of baby bedding. This is important when you consider that you would be looking at several sheet changes a day sometimes. This might or might not happen, but like the Boyscouts, you should be prepared.
Most mattresses are plastic coated. But just in case, make sure that this is what you are getting. Nonplastic coated mattresses mean a lot more work and could mean a little bit of an odd smell before all is said and done. This might only happen once out of every couple of hundred purchases, but it does happen, so think about it.
Temperature weighs in pretty heavy on making a choice with baby bedding as well. You should really consider the weather. Even if it is normally warm in your house, a small draft you don’t notice could be a huge wind to your baby. By the same token, in cooler weather, stick with cotton and shy away from the flannels some.
Matching is a good thing or else it is an incredible headache when it comes to baby bedding. Maybe if you haven’t registered somewhere you should let everyone you know in on your decorating plans. This might save some embarrassing moments later when someone realizes just how far off they were in their gifts. Some people are a little shy about mentioning their decoration plans for fear of looking like a “bedding grubber” in the end though, they will appreciate you.
If you are dead set on making sure everything matches, make sure you family and friends are aware of this as well. In addition to letting them know about any character themes you might be looking at, mention the primary colors you will be using. This will save a whole lot of hurt feelings in the long run. Nothing is worse than when Aunt Millie buys some sheets that you will never use, and lord knows you do not want to have to listen to your mother when Millie notices that you have never used them.
Remember to have some fun with your new nursery decor. Chances are that your infant will never stand up and let you know just how much they appreciate all your planning. To be perfectly realistic about it, they probably won’t notice or care. But you? Yes, you will definitely have an idea as the hard work you’ve put into the nursery. Good luck with everything and definitely be prepared for the big day by having lots of bedding on hand.
