You should give a neck support pillow a try if you suffer from chronic back pain or stiffness. The pillow is designed to support and comfort your neck, shoulders and back. It will cradle your neck and will restore the natural curve of your spine therefore releasing any pressure that is on your joints. Your spine could be out of alignment due to any number of reasons such as bad sleeping position, not sitting properly or spending hours on a keyboard typing.
Neck support pillows relieve the symptoms of poor posture. They work as the weight of the head gently stretches the neck to its maximum extension while relaxing the spinal cord. It also stretches the muscles in the front of the neck allowing the joints to receive proper fluid motion and helps to restore the normal position.
There are many symptoms to poor posture that you may be unaware of. Symptoms such as headaches, poor concentration and pains in the neck are all related to bad sleeping positions. The neck support pillow will rectify this by making sure that you sleep in the proper position. You will be able to sleep comfortably while stretching out the spinal cord and muscles.
Most neck support pillows are designed to be used with the patient lying upwards. This allows the upper chest to open up and create a bigger breathing space. The weight of your head will also stretch out your spine and nerves that may be otherwise in spasm. This again relieves any pains that may be in your neck and will help you achieve good posture.
Some neck pillows have added advantages:
1. Massage features: These pillows are battery operated and will massage your muscles while you use it.
2. Buckwheat pillows. These pillows can be heated up in the microwave and work well to mold around your head and neck.
3. Microwaveable.

5. Inflatable neck pillows: These again can be adjusted to suit your sleeping position. You can add as much air or remove it as you like to get the right amount of pressure. There is an air release valve to help remove the air quickly.
6. Travel neck pillows: They provide neck support during travel by airplane, train or car giving you the comfort of a good sleep. Prevents the head from rolling and lets you sleep upright.
7. Neck roll pillows: These pillows are designed to keep your head in one position. They prevent you from rolling around during the night and works in both an upright and laying down position.
